Project Updates
Project Updates, September 2023
Wow, I’ve neglected this thing for a long time. So let’s hit the high points:
Found a cool little 2-stroke Bridgestone 100TMX, fixed it up.
-I took the CBX completely apart, then did nothing for like 3 years.
-Then I paid someone to rebuild the carbs and they did a phenomenal job.
-Then I paid someone to powdercoat a bunch of parts, and they did an awful job, and damaged a bunch of them.
-Then I ignored it for another year. Now I’m at least thinking about it again.
So what else? Well…I finally finished the V8 240:
Then I bought an XR4TI for cheap because I was bored, got it running, and then sold it when I realized how much it was going to cost to turn into a racecar:
And after that I got bored again, bought a ’63 Volvo 122, and now that’s occupying my interest, at least until something else comes along.
CBX Update November 12, 2019
Long time no update here…the carbs are now all off and disassembled on the CBX. I’ve run the bodies through my ultrasonic cleaner and they’re ready to start being reassembled.
CBX Update April 19, 2019
Well I got the carbs off last night…
This is the left side of the bike which looks like it sat against a drafty outside wall. The bike came from Charleston, SC, so it was definitely exposed to salt air in storage.
Carbs removed. I’ll drop the engine the rest of the way out this evening.
The airbox boots have been glued in at some point. That doesn’t seem kosher, is it?
Previous hackjob repair on the air tee. Both of them were like this.
Someone has stripped out some of the screws. Use your JIS drivers kids!
The carbs look grungy, but everything is free, so that’s good.
Popped one float bowl off to have a look-see. There’s a lot of ghunk in there, but that can be cleaned.
Rebuild kit will be in today I think. I should probably get an ultrasonic cleaner on order…
